Gordon Skiers Coach Eilidh McLeod nominated as a London 2012 Olympic Torchbearer
Eilidh McLeod has been nominated as an official London 2012 Olympic Torchbearer, through the BP North Sea Torchbearer Programme.
Eilidh’s nomination is subject to the approval of The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and will not be confirmed until the official LOCOG Torchbearer announcement in February 2012.
Eilidh was nominated as a Torchbearer for exemplifying the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship. She has chieved excellence with the British Development Ski team, competing in the 2007 youth Olympics, and was tipped to represent the UK in the 2014 Winter Olympics until injury brought her burgeoning sporting career to a premature conclusion. Having sustained serious injuries in the All England Championships in Bormio, Italy, Eilidh spent a week in intensive care, underwent extensive surgery and was told she would never ski again. However, Eilidh’s determination through two years of intensive rehabilitation saw her not only back on the piste again, but well on her way to fulfilling her goal of competing again for the Scottish Alpine Ski Team.
Eilidh, who lives in Aberdeen, combines her studies with dedicating a large amount of time to coaching, motivating and passing on her extensive knowledge to developing skiers, as Race Captain for the University Ski Club .
Eilidh will carry the Olympic Flame during the Aberdeen leg of the 70-day journey across the UK. The Olympic Torch Relay will culminate with the lighting of the cauldron in the Olympic Stadium, officially marking the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
